two weekends ago, i attended an outdoor adventure with the international student center on campus with the intentions of getting to "camp" (we stayed in a cabin, but this is as close as i can get to camping since no one i know likes real camping), canoe, zipline, and spend some time in self-reflection against the backdrop of the appalachian mountains. in fact, i was most looking forward to going off on my own and reflecting. i spent the first hour by the lake and on small trails trying to claim one as the place where i'd spend the rest of my weekend in contemplation.
... and then this happened, and i realized that what i thought i would learn by processing internally was taught through my experiences with these amazing people from all over the world.
the trip was absolutely amazing -- one of the best trips on which i've ever been. the whole time was spent in exchanging our stories and how each of us was so unique but also so much more similar than we imagined. from that point on, we were all pretty much attached at the hip.
this group of people is just ridiculously awesome, and i know i have made new friends for life.
in pursuit of:
becoming a resident tourist
going camping and hanging around a fire with cool people ( from my autumn bucket list)

That looks fantastic! It's amazing when we can just get back into nature. I hope you stayed warm!
What a great getaway!! :) My parents actually went on a trip to the Appalachian mountains.. not sure exactly where.. but they had a great time. I'll have to make it out one day. I feel like that's what happens anytime you do a retreat or do a getaway with a bunch of strangers.. you end up getting really close. :)
That looks like so much fun! Especially the canoeing. Haha I'm not an outdoors person but every time I see pictures of people having fun, I feel like it might actually be fun if I dared to try it. :P
I did! I wore tons of layers!
You definitely should! It is absolutely gorgeous!!! :)
I love being outdoors, especially when you get to be outdoors in places as beautiful as this. You should definitely try it! Canoeing wasn't hard at all!
that's really cool. I love the outdoors and nature, so pretty. glad you had an amazing time.
Thanks! It was soooo fun!
Such amazing scenery! Funny how that works out - you go away for some alone time and end up in a group of amazing people who you have a great time hanging out with. Sounds like an awesome trip. :)
This does sound like an amazing trip!! Cabin camping is about as close as I'm willing to get to camping too :) So glad you met such awesome people to go along with the experience.
I just saw this! So sorry I haven't responded :(
But yes, it was!
Thanks so much!
