new regimen trial #2 | 11.15

i went a totally opposite direction in this weekend's wash day from a wash 'n' go to a roller set, and i have to say that i am super stoked about this even though it was a bit more work!

the process
henna glossed with lush caca noir for two hours
washed scalp with lush blousey
cowashed with white rain tropical coconut conditioner to remove all of the henna
treated with mastey super pac reconstructor (AMAZING!!!!)
conditioned with renpure argan oil conditioner (also AMAZING!!!!!)
set on jumbo velcro rollers

i used 18 conair 2.5" velcro rollers, and it only took about 30 minutes to dry on medium heat and speed. since i didn't bring my standing dryer to school, i set my blowdryer up in a drawer and laid under it (resourceful or nah???).
i was in loooooooove with this big hair! it was super smooth and super soft, and the rollers got my roots pretty straight. i could've easily hit a few roots with my iron on low and gone really sleek, but i'm a low density girl with dolly parton dreams.

maintenance
i put my hair in a very loose bantu knot or bun overnight and used just enough coconut oil to lubricate my hands to take it down in the morning.
two nights ago, i set my dry hair on 8 perm rods using shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie on the ends and got a really cute roller wrap look (i will take a picture after the next one!), so i will probably do this every few nights to keep the set fresh.

with a few tweaks, i think this may be my new regimen! and i am ready to have one that i can use CONSISTENTLY!!!!

things i want to include/try:
coconut oil rinses and scalp massages
roller setting with renpure conditioner - this condish is my new holy grail!!!!
q-redew - i just purchased one, and i want to test it out for extra moisture
pomade for my edges - i love my hair but my "baby" hairs are determined to eat my forehead, and i just want them to blend into my hairline

i am going to stretch this set until it's on its last leg to see how long i can go to keep the manipulation of washing, conditioning, combing, and setting low. plus i'd get to save money on products!

in pursuit of:
treating my hair as my crown and glory

GASP

DROP DEAD GORGEOUS!!!!

I'm utterly AMAZED at how straight you got your hair with only rollers and indirect heat. AMAZED. Girl---I LOVE IT!

I use Chi Twisted to keep my edges in check (when I remember). I tried an all-natural wax a million moons ago...but I just can't remember the name right now. *stupid mommy brain*

Thanks for sharing your #washdayexperience chica!

Your hair looks good. Coconut oil is basically a miracle product, but I haven't done a coconut oil rinse. Sounds nice! :] // ▲ itsCarmen.com ▲

That second picture is everything, It looks like you got a professional blowout! I love your volumnious curls!
Be sure to let us know about your Q-redew steamer, it looks much better than sitting under a dryer to DC hair.

It definitely feels long to me now because I used to HATE roller sets when my hair was shorter, but now I am in love with them! I never knew I just needed more length to really enjoy them.

Awwwww... thanks! I was really surprised, too. It's definitely the brushes on the rollers because my hair does NOT get smooth on regular magnetic rollers, and I can't get them taut enough to stretch my roots. I know it's not for everyone, but they definitely work for me!
I was looking at a pomade by Giovanni that I might pick up! These things are ridiculous. It's funny because I see a lot of people intentionally brush their baby hairs down/forward, and I'm like no... just no... back up.

Thank you, Jay!
You're always so sweet :)

Coconut oil rinses are sooooo nice! I use coconut oil in every one of my beauty regimens - skin, hair, nails, teeth, etc. It's just amazing, and I agree with you about it being a miracle product!

Thank you so much, Harlem!!!
I will definitely come back with a steamer update once I use it!

THAT"S RIGHT! Giovanni is who that wax is made by! (Great minds, I tell ya...great minds) I prefer waxes to because they last longer don't make my hair wet (and revert) and don't flake. I mean---who has time for flaky edges?

I'm not about slicking those baby hairs down or around either. Get back in line with your cousins y'all. LOL.

Sweet but total truth. :-) And, YW! P.S. I wish I had dimples!

Your hair looks so soft, and I love the flowy look! I feel you on those baby edges. I will stay tuned to see how you manage those babies. :-)

I haven't done a henna gloss or an actual roller set in forever. Looking at how well your hair turned out, I think I need to revisit a roller set in the next few weeks.

Britt @ The Pinnacle Project said...

Haha! Wish I could share :)

Thanks, Kristal!
I was really surprised about how nice it came out!
And these edges are super resistant! I've brushed them back with some serious products before, but by the end of the day, they're eating my forehead again!

Britt @ The Pinnacle Project said...

If you do, please let me know! I am truly enjoying it in this state - it's so easy to moisturize and maintain!

True story, I use to suck in my jaws when I was little because I wanted dimples. When I figured out that wasn't working, I started cheesing really hard hoping my jaws would cave in and show signs of dimples. Still, nope. Oh well. God knew what he was doing.

Britt @ The Pinnacle Project said...

Awwwww hahaha. I actually didn't appreciate mine until pretty recently. I can't imagine my life without them now! But it's so funny how God gives us some things and not others, and I wonder sometimes how He chooses!
