#fitnessfriday | workouts for lower body injuries

fitness friday is BACK!!!!
i am super duper excited to be back with the new and improved link-up dedicated to fitness and overall wellness.

as i mentioned in my last post, i fractured my foot running and just found out today that i've also developed planters fasciitis and metatarsalgia! this means no to running and other high-impact exercises and yes to shoe inserts.

while i am healing, i am still determined to get healthy. i've definitely gained weight since starting grad school and i am not going to let these feet hold me back! here are a few of the workouts i've been doing to keep myself active even from a chair!

swimming:
swimming is one of the best total body workouts you can do and there is literally no ground impact! i've begun swimming at least once per week, and i will move that to two to three in the next few weeks. it's amazing being in the water again!

chair workouts:

this workout is short but it is NO joke! if you're big into lifting like i am, grab some weights and a chair, and be prepared to get your booty kicked!

this fitness blender workout is a challenge as well!

yoga:
yoga can definitely be beneficial for injuries, particularly if your doctor suggests lots of stretching and activating certain body parts like the achilles tendon, heels, and legs. definitely make sure you're studying under an experienced yogi that will ensure your form is perfect to prevent further injuries. i love yoga and i do it as often as i can, and i will definitely continue!

as always, check with your doctor before trying anything!

how do you stay fit when you're literally down and out?
let us know!

Oh no! How long will you have to wear your cute new bootie? I admire your commitment to fitness even with an injury! Does this mean no high impact workouts forever or just until your feet get better?

I am having such a hard time getting discus to cooperate with me! I hope this one works. Youre quite the inspiration, workin hard despite your feet. I hope you're ok, and not in too much pain. And I hope you're up and at em with high impact workouts soon. (I used to swear by fitnessblender workouts!) How are you feeling?

My bootie comes off next week but I have to wear inserts for the rest of my life :(
My doctor told me no running ever, but I'm not sure about other exercises. I will ask once I'm finished recovery in the next 6-8!

Thanks, Dani! The pain is being medicated and I have to stay off my feet completely for a little while (stuck in bed this weekend :-/). Once I heal and get my inserts, the pain should be gone!

Way to go in keeping fit while injured. It would be so easy to say, my foot is messed up so I can't work out!

I hope you get better soon. I love to workout while catching up on shows like Revenge. I usually get a good 45 minutes of none-stop workout.

Thank you! That's a good idea - I don't watch much TV but I really love seeing new music videos so I may try that!

I am trying! My boot is off finally, but I still can't do anything really high impact, so swimming is about to be a regular occurrence!

My father in law wears inserts too and he's super active. Last week, he walked a half-marathon. Inserts aren't the end of the world I suppose. :)

Not the end of the world, but super expensive since they make fitting into my current sized shoes incredibly uncomfortable, especially if I have to wear socks :(
