september: make a habit - break a habit challenge

happy pre-labor day!
can you believe that we only have three more weeks of summer left?!
it is BEYOND insane to think that fall is literally right around the corner!

instead of spending tomorow cooking out this year (because we don't have labor day off anyway), i decided to start a new challenge for myself to keep pushing toward the life i want to lead. to that end, i am going to focus on making one good habit and breaking a bad one this month.

make a habit: exercise!
my nike+ running plan that will prepare me for my first run in October starts tomorrow, and i need to hit the ground running (hahahaha - i'm a geek)!
i also want to attend yoga at least once a week from now on. i need to take advantage of getting classes at college prices, and given how much yoga has changed my life, i should've never stayed away this long!

break a habit: using technology at bedtime.
i have a horrible habit of settling into bed with my laptop/phone and then wondering where three hours went when i finally stop perusing pointless garbage on both. i have much more restful sleep when i keep those things away, and i use a lot less electricity when i'm not attached to them all the time.

any habits you want to make/break?

in pursuit of:
preparing to participate in at least three runs/races
mastering 10 hatha asanas
drastically reducing my carbon footprint

I really like the Nike+ running app its really helpful. I want to make a habit of exercising as well and not just for the sake of vanity either and I want to break a habit of doubting myself.

Wow! I don't think I could ever do races like I was able to when I was younger. Good luck with your races and runs that you want to participate in :)

sending you some positive energy,

I definitely need to work on not using technology for at least the hour before bed! I know it's so much better for you, but even when I manage to put my computer away, I end up lying in bed scrolling through Twitter on my phone right before I fall asleep. And exercising is something I need to work on, too! I can't wait to hear how the Nike+ running app works out for you :) Good luck with these goals!

I absolutely adore this post! I think I might adopt the idea for my own goals this month! (You are totally getting all the credit though! Great work!)

I did my first workout and it was definitely cool!
I love the idea of breaking the habit of self-doubt. That is a life-skill!

I am the same way! I am thinking I will put my laptop away 2 hours before bed and then my phone 1 hour before, and refusing to use either of them in my bed at all whether or not it's bedtime.
The app is pretty sweet - I like it so far!
Thank you :)

Yeah, it is so addictive! I am determined to break it!!!!
But thank you :)

Thanks so much! And feel free to steal :)

Thanks so much, Vanessa!
I'm really nervous about it - I've never been that great of a runner. And it's 3 by the time I'm 30, not 3 this year! So it's only like once a year. I would pass out otherwise!

I found this post from Lauren's link and just want to say that I love it! I'm going to pass it along to my clients and use it for myself. Good Luck!

I love this idea -- I tend to constantly use my phone and that must stop.

Hello, I'm visiting from the link-up :)
This challenge idea is great!
I have the same habit of going to bed with my phone and I end up being more awake thus I can't sleep. And a habit that I would like to make is drink more water.
Hope you can achieve your challenge :D
Greetings, have a nice day ♥

This is such an awesome idea girl! :) How much is yoga at college prices? :) Good luck on making and breaking habits. I probably need to break eating at midnight... and figure out a good way to incorporate being more active without having to go to the gym.

I love the idea of this challenge! I think we all have some habits that we would love to change! And using too much technology just in general is definitely something I'm guilty of as well. Good luck! :)

That's awesome! I hope that it is successful - please let me know how it works for them!

Britt @ The Pinnacle Project said...

Thank you!
And yes, I am attached to my phone - it needs to stop! Gotta sleep sometime!

Britt @ The Pinnacle Project said...

Awesome goal! Please come back and let me know how it goes!

Thanks so much, Esther!
And I am able to get unlimited yoga at my university for $50/year!!! Insanity - definitely taking advantage of that.
Good luck with late-night eating. That's a struggle with me as well, which I think is partly due to the fact that I stay up later than I need to when I'm messing around with my phone/comp :-/

Thanks so much, Melanie! :)

I need to get away from using technology all the time and read my book more often.

That's a great goal! What are you reading?
